More News: cPanel plans are close to launch!
cPanel Reseller Plans: We announced previously that we will be offering Reseller plans that use the cPanel control
panel. The administrative features of cPanel are more consistent with
how a Linux server works. It provides for domain/site login
capabilities, as does Plesk, but offers more flexibility for installing
higher end applications using Java and other programming languages.
cPanel also offers an unlimited domain license at no extra charge. We
expect to launch our cPanel plans before the end of January.
Through February 16th, we are offering a free
upgrade to all customers! Here is how it works. Let’s say you have an
Advanced Plan ($50 per month) and want to upgrade to the Advanced Plus
plan ($70 per month). The monthly price difference is $20 per
month, which we will issue to you as a credit. Create your upgrade
order from Control Panel > Upgrade Center tab > Change Hosting Plan,
then follow through and make payment or choose off-line payment. The
system resets your billing cycle and creates an order for the amount of
the new plan, less a credit for the service period remaining on your
old plan. We will then isse a credit to your account if you paid
the order (or your order if you chose pay off-line), equal to the
difference in the monthly price between the plan you were on and the
plan you upgraded to. Please note, there is a limit of $100 total credit per customer account for this promotion.
To take
advantage of this offer, send an email to sales@eapps.com,
with the text ‘January promotion – Free Upgrade’ in
the subject of your message. Hurry, February 16th will be here before you know it.

Featured Customer: LoyaltyMatch
Launched earlier this year, LoyaltyMatch.com
is the first person-to-person global marketplace that facilitates the
conversion of frequent flier miles and other loyalty program member
points into cash or merchandise. Shoppers do not need to belong to any
loyalty program to trade or buy reward goods, services and
entertainment and leisure activities. LoyaltyMatch.com members from 50
countries are collaborating; creating a community around the trading,
buying or selling of merchandise by leveraging their loyalty program
points or miles.
LoyaltyMatch also offers a social networking fund raising service to
help non-profits and other organizations raise money. This unique
LoyaltyMatch feature allows teams, non-profits or organizations to
leverage the combined selling power of each group member’s points. For
example, a church group may be raising funds to purchase Sunday School
supplies or to perform repairs to the church roof. All members of the
congregation sign up with LoyaltyMatch and join the church’s group.
When a member of that group converts their points to cash, they donate
the money to the church (and receive a tax receipt).
In the spring of 2007 LoyaltyMatch was searching for a robust VPS
platform to launch their new service. eApps was highly recommended on
many development and user forums. Within a few hours after contacting
eApps the LoyaltyMatch system was up and running. eApps has delivered
on fast turn around, customer service and a provides rich platform for
developing and running sophisticated applications. As LoyaltyMatch
continues to grow, eApps seamlessly upgrades the service offering
without interruption. If you are searching for a unique Valentine
shopping experience, or need extra cash to pay off holiday debts, check

Tech Tips: Conserving disk space
In our previous newsletter we
offered tips on optimizing resource usage . This month we offer our tips for Conserving disk space.
Disk space accumulates over time. But in some cases, disk space is
consumed faster than you might expect. This could be because of error
logs, file backups, email message errors, and other reasons. This tech
tip helps you find where your disk usage is.
Disk Space Usage in Directories:
It is easy to find space usage in directories with basic linux
commands. From the command line, as root user, run the following
command:
du -h –max-depth 1
You will get a directory list with the amount of space in each directory similar to this:
3.4G ./var
6.6M ./etc
0 ./proc
0 ./sys
4.0K ./dev
19M ./lib
4.0K ./mnt
4.9M ./bin
168K ./tmp
4.0K ./boot
4.0K ./media
18M ./opt
2.7G ./home
1.4G ./usr
4.0K ./selinux
8.7M ./root
28K ./.mc
4.0K ./srv
7.4M ./sbin
Use the cd command to change directories into any directory using a lot
of space and run the same du command again. This will help you identify
exactly where the space is being used. FYI, the following directories are likely suspects when looking for disk usage:
/tmp
/var/tmp/
/var/log/
/var/lib/mysql
/var/spool/
/opt/tomcat/logs
eMail Message errors: Another area where disk space can accumulate is in the ‘root’ mailbox. By
default, there are several email aliases (/etc/aliases) which will
route email into the “root” mailbox. Since “root” is not
routinely checked it tends to accumulate with system emails and those
returned as undeliverable to “postmaster”. It is recommended that
you configure the “root” mailbox so that it routes to another email
account which is checked on a regular basis. This can be set in
your Control Panel under the System tab > Mail Management > Mail Server > Edit (button) > Administrator’s E-mail.
If “root” has already accumulated a significant amount of email, it can be cleared using the command:
cp /dev/null /var/spool/mail/root
